... Centrino
Centrino. Introduced by Intel in January of 2003, the Centrino platform, combines the Pentium M processor, a mobile chip set and a 802.11 wireless chip. It can be found in many notebooks and laptops. The brand name was especially designed for the wireless mobile market, and it marked the first time Intel had branded a series of technologies under one brand name.
The new Sonoma platform will offer even better performance with a 533-MHz frontside bus, speedy DDR2 memory, some high-end audio, optional 802.11a/b/g Wi-Fi, and making its first appearance in notebooks - the very fast PCI Express bus.
Over the years we have had different new generation of the Centrino Platform:
Napa platform (2006)
Santa Rosa platform (2007)
Montevina platform (2008)
Calpella platform (2009)
Huron River platform (2011)
This year we will have the Chief River platform (2012) which
is the eighth-generation Centrino platform.
