Perhaps, one of the least known entries in the Notebook Guide would have to be Averatec Laptops or notebooks. Many may not have heard of this computer maker which is located in three different places.

Making up three companies in - Orange County, CA (Averatec Inc., U.S.) Taipeh, Taiwan (Averatec Asia, Inc.) and Munich, Germany (Averatec Europe). Averatec is a South Korean brand which is owned by TG Sambo, one of that country's first computer markers. According to Wikipedia, Averatec was first introduced to the American marketplace in July 2003.

Averatec makes laptops and accessories dealing with the thin and light class of notebooks. Their goal is summed up in their company motto: "Mobility without Borders for Everyman."

They make innovative laptops at an affordable price. Averatec should be on your list if you want a very affordable laptop but don't want to sacrifice quality along with that bargain!

UPDATE: Averatec seems to have exited the North American Marketplace and models are no longer available.
