NVIDIA has just released what it says is the fastest gaming laptop GPU - the GeForce GTX 480M. According to their website, the GTX 480M will produce cutting-edge graphics which will take mobile notebook gaming to a whole new level.

The "combined power of DirectX 11, CUDA™, NVIDIA® 3D Vision™, and NVIDIA® PhysX® technologies" will give gamers HD stereoscopic 3D images which can be displayed on 3 displays for maximum effect. This is the first portable video chip to integrate NVIDIA’s Fermi architecture.

This GPU is similar to the GeForce GTX 465 desktop GPU and uses a 56-bit wide GDDR5 memory interface, with 1 GB of Ram. The ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5870 will give the GTX 480M some competition.

There's a very interesting and heated discussion over on Teckpowerup.com about the whole idea of putting such a powerful GPU in a laptop. Actually, this discussion is the "on-going" agrument of why anyone would use a laptop for gaming in the first place.
