Dell Introduces the Alienware M18x
- A Powerful Gaming Laptop
Written by Titus Hoskins
Well, sort of.
There are reports that Dell (on it's Canadian site) briefly displayed this new M18x model which will be added to their impressive Alienware gaming laptopseries.
Actually, rumors have been flying for some time now and many believe this is a rather sorry attempt by a Reputable company like Dell to garner some buzz in the blogosphere. And these leaked reports are building some interest in this new gaming laptop which will be "massive" in every sense of the word.
The M18x on the Dell Canada site sported the new Intel Core i7 Extreme processor which can be overclocked to an obscene 4GHz. Gamers will have the option of dual graphics with either AMD CrossFireX or Nvidia SLI configurations. You have an even more obscene amount of RAM - up to 32 Gigs. Thankfully, the large 18.4 display with 1,920 x 1,080 resolution is a little more useful.
Of course, the above specs relate to a fully loaded Alienware system. The starting model's specs and price on the Canadian site was a little more modest: 4 GB of RAM, Nvidia GeForce 460 GPU with a more reasonable price of $2,000 Canadian dollars.
This new laptop will join the popular Alienware M11x, M15x, M17x and M14x?
On a more critical note, this laptop looks very similar to the powerful Toshiba 18.4 Qosmio X505 series, so Gamers should check out this model for comparison shopping.
On an even more critical and cynical note, many Gamers say it simply ridiculous to cram all this power and performance into such a small space. You're just begging for trouble - can you say fan noise and over-heating? Why not go with a desktop PC and save yourself some money and headaches.
Regardless of your opinion, where there is buzz, there's usually a product in the pipeline - so get ready for the Alienware M18x gaming laptop.
